Vintage reel parts
This page lists parts for vintage reels and sources for those parts. These listings are intended to facilitate locating difficult-to-locate parts, many of which are no longer available from the original reel makers. Several caveats are in order concerning parts, suppliers, and repairs:
-
Parts listed here have been used in repairs for reels actually documented on this site. The repairs have been bench-tested, and on that limited basis the parts are considered to work for their intended purpose.
-
Suppliers listed here are independent of the Vintage Reels Service Guides project and no affiliation or endorsement is implied. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy in these listings, but parts availability, compatibility, prices, materials, and seller policies may change.
-
Repairs described here apply only to reels actually documented on this site. Vintage reels, even of the same maker and model, have many points of variation including differences in usage, condition, and age. Repairs as described on this site do not guarantee compatibility, performance, or durability for every reel of the same model or family.
Several different types of parts are included in these listings - here are some definitions to clarify the terminology.
| Term | Meaning in this page |
|---|---|
| Original part | The component originally supplied by reel maker |
| OEM replacement | A replacement made or officially supplied by reel maker |
| NOS | New-old-stock original reel maker inventory |
| Donor part | An original used part removed from another reel |
| Non-OEM replacement | A compatible part made by an independent maker |

Penn 720 / 722 / z crosswind block

Application: Penn 720, 722, 720z, 722z spinning reels (the z-series reels are later models).
Part name / number: Crosswind block, original Penn part no. 43-720.
Part type / material: Non-OEM, black carbon fiber (original block is white plastic).
Source: maxpartsrepair, last verified 9.12.26.
Repair / outcome: Installed in one Penn 720, passed initial bench test.
Notes: The parts arrived ahead of schedule after ordering, were as described / pictured, and appeared to be virtually identical to the original except that they are black instead of white. Since the 720 and 722 models used the same crosswind block, a donor part could also be sourced from a vintage "parts" reel of either model.
